Our Policy on Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Our Policy on Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
Our company places equally high priority on the safety of people, the environment and the production facilities, on the quality of its products and services, and on the economic efficiency of our operations. In case of doubt, absolute priority is given to human safety and environmental protection. No activity is so important that it cannot be carried out safely.
We pursue an open dialog with our customers, regulators and interest groups.
Our aim is to continuously and sustainably improve job safety, environmental protection, plant safety, product and service quality, and the economic situation of our company.
We are obligated to comply with the relevant statutes and regulations and will invest the required material and organisational resources.
We will work to continuously improve customer satisfaction by fulfilling customer demands and desires.
We seek to prevent accidents, environmental problems and quality defects. We will make use of hazard analyses, risk assessments and incident investigations and work to further improve our management system.
All employees share responsibility for health protection, safety, environmental protection and quality. Supervisors bear special responsibility . For us, protecting health, people, the environment and assets is an integral part of our philosophy. It is a responsibility that does not end on leaving the company premises. Our supervisors ensure that the employees are consistently aware of these issues.
Through regular training, we will provide our employees with the knowledge required to perform their jobs properly and ensure that they are fully committed to the principles of health, safety, environment and quality.
Our partner companies are required to apply these HSEQ principles when performing work within our enterprise.
    Our energy policyOur energy policy
Oil refining is one of the most energy-intensive industries. Our plant uses about 8.5% of its crude oil input to produce the energy – electricity, steam and heating medium – it needs. Consequently, as employees of PCK Raffinerie GmbH, we have a particular responsibility to save energy – for the sake of natural resources, the environment and the climate.

In the Solomon Energy Intensity Index in 2008, we ranked in the third quartile in terms of energy efficiency. We intend to improve our position and join the most efficient refineries in the first quartile by 2020. To do so, assuming external conditions remain unchanged, in the first stage until 2014 we will endeavour to reduce our total energy consumption by 5% or 68.5 MW, which corresponds to the energy consumption of about 50,000 people.

    The measures required include:

Systematically recording and evaluating energy consumption throughout the company
Recording and regularly updating energy flows
Planning and carrying out energy-saving measures
Fixing short- and long-term energy-saving targets
    Regularly evaluating energy-saving measures
Continuously updating planned activities to improve energy efficiency
We will also regularly check that:

The necessary financial and structural requirements are met
All staff are integrated into the implementation of the energy management system and their responsibilities specified
Relevant legal obligations and other demands are observed
